KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “SHIFT” by Karen Carlo Salinger Things are shifting everywhere, quickly and drastically. Our climate has been changing for a long time, but the pace of the shift has been speeding up, and we as humans have to shift to adjust to it, and change our ways drastically to try to ameliorate the damage we have been causing for way too long. Our culture is shifting, mostly for the good, for those who are waking up and trying to learn from history, to do better, and make our society a better place. Others are resisting this shift with all their might, and doubling down on the wrongs of history, because they fear change and what that might mean. We are in the midst of a massive pandemic, which is causing structural shifts throughout our world, and we as a species are trying to adapt and…

“A Little Peace” by Sarah Loyola _ September Feature Exhibition
KALEID Gallery is proud to present: A Little Peace exhibition by Sarah Loyola Unexpected gifts of the past year have been time – time outside in nature with my family and time to create in and embrace a new medium – cyanotype. This work is the joining of the two. Long having been fascinated with textures and inspired by natural processes in my painting and mixed media works, the addition of photography has brought another element. Printing using the sun further enhances the natural, the inexact, and the absence of complete control – as the medium directs the follow of the piece. Through a touch of sunlight, this body of work brings the peace of the outside in, in a close-up examination of a year in 3 San Jose parks: Alum Rock, Umunhum, and Santa Teresa – a glimpse into the passage of time through the large and the small.About…

Artist will be in attendance.Color and the juxtaposition of colors that our vision encounters; every moment plays an important role in how we celebrate life.My goal is to create a glimpse of the past using color as the coalescing force, be it the serene lit faces of a buddha, or a shiva, or through stories from Indian mythology to find joyfulness and meaning in that canvas.About the Artist:All my life, I was in awe of artists – engaging in their creations, deciphering their thought process with colors, lines, and textures, and in the end celebrating them. I had no idea, 9 years back, that trying to gel with my younger daughter would allow me to find my life’s passion. My daughter was taking an art class and to spend some quality…
“Without a plan in the spirit of the Material” by Rachel Karklin _ June Feature Exhibit
Without a plan in the Spirit of the Material sculptures by resident artist Rachel Karklin Opening reception: First Friday June 4th, 5pm–9pm.Free admission, all ages, mask required. Artist will be in attendance.Materials are parts of all our spaces, physical and mental. They come from their own places and have different pasts of their evolvement. It results in their beautiful and so distinct properties. I see them as having their personalities and laws of behavior. We can’t change their properties, we have to follow laws and use it to our advantage. In art, by creating we give the material a great extension and broadening of their spaces. We can bring different materials to a beautiful co-existence even when it does not exist in nature. In over 10 years of making art, I have worked with clay, stone, wax, bronze, steel, concrete, and resin. I love the process, I am open to any constrains…
“Occasional Optimist” by Katie Gutierrez _ May Feature Exhibit
KALEID Gallery is proud to present the feature exhibition: Occasional Optimist by resident artist Katie Gutierrez For years, I have kept a “Year of Fun” list. A chronicle of all the positive things that had transpired during the year, as well as planned escapades that I was looking forward to. The list took a turn in early 2020.This is a collection of new work inspired by some of the things I have worried, daydreamt, laughed and cried about, been comforted by and endured during the pandemic, from the silly to the downright traumatizing. It would be easy to drown in the awful, but the Occasional Optimist in me is hopeful that going through these extraordinarily difficult times can force real growth and change for the better.About the Artist:My work tends to revolve around CHANGE – good, bad, or otherwise – and its effects. I paint my feelings, and I love the…

KALEID Gallery is proud to present the feature exhibition:Meet You Halfway by resident artist Julie Meridian. An artistic call and response brings new life to fast art. This show of newly re-painted landscapes picks up where paint nights leave off to interpret the same scene through another lens. See how social, guided art expresses itself in ways that veer towards abstraction when compared to carefully rendered realism. What’s different that rings true to make it a sense of a place? What’s the same that may have only been hinted at in the original art? Each one honors the way life continues, in often subtle ways, all around us. About the Artist:Julie Meridian captures the essence of people and places through representational art that reveals impressionist details. Her art often highlights moments of contemplation and peaceful solitude. Natural and unassuming poses create a pervasive sense of being truly present. This solemn eye…
