photo by Stephanie Bailey TWO BUCK TUESDAY, June 15th 2010 6:30-9pm $2 Art Sale and Quirky Speaker Series This month at Two Buck Tuesday- a range of people who spend more time than you do with animals. David has created most of the art work for the library featuring Conroy (he also proposed to his wife in the Cougar suit.) You can see David’s art work on view at KALEID Gallery. Stephanie Bailey is a stiltwalker, ballet dancer, puppeteer and flautist. She travels the world as a museum photographer. Last summer, she spent two months…

KALEID Featured Exhibitions for May 2010

art by Shannon Amidon Efflorescence by Shannon Amidon Efflorescence is a series of lumen prints by Shannon Amidon inspired by her interest in blending artistic renderings of nature and old world photographic techniques. Camera-less images are created by exposing botanical specimens and photographic paper to varying levels of sunlight, time, and temperature, creating unique and ethereal images that transcend the specimens’ natural color, shape, and form. A companion ambient sound installation by Compartment organically interprets pieces of Shannon Amidon’s Efflorescence series resulting in musical vignettes that are sometimes alarming, sometimes whimsical. Compartment will be present opening night performing a live musical installation. art by Centa Schumacher Preconscious a photographic exhibition by Centa Schumacher. This work explores what is just beneath our awareness using the body as an intermediary between the conscious mind and the subconscious. By turning the camera onto herself, Centa Schumacher shows that the separation between the physical…

Opening Receptions for Kurtis Rykovich, Kate Saturday at KALEID April 2nd

WANDA new paintings by Kurtis Rykovich Everyday I am confronted or find myself thinking about a war so intense that it cannot be escaped, and in some way has touched us all. This war has a front line in every country and can take root in any neighborhood. In theory it is probably the least judgmental being or thing I can think of, since it shows no signs of discrimination. If this war leaves any survivors they always come out scarred but probably have never felt such a moment of empowerment. These survivors can finally breath and know that they have accomplished something that can sometimes be a miracle, they have survived Breast Cancer. This show is a tribute to these survivors and casualties. Each piece represents a battle or search for a cure. Weather it be a green tonic, shark cartilage, or the ultimate warrior known as Chemotherapy. All…

Sandi Billingsley, Mark Damrel Feature Exhibits at KALEID

KALEID Gallery presents featured exhibitions by Sandi Billingsley and Mark Damrel for the month of February. art by Sandi Bi  llingsley Transfiguration is a collection of three dimensional art is an expression of Sandi Billingsley‘s faith that “we humans can live in luxury while being environmentally responsible.” Transfiguration is essentially the art of changing the properties of an object. In this case it refers to the changing of garbage into art.     This series is made entirely from rescued materials. The core is made of Styrofoam collected from shipping packages, friends and  dumpsters.  Sandi then applies a combination of old paint clothes, junk mail, phone books — basically anything with natural fibers headed for the trash. Dipping these flexible materials in non-toxic glue gives them strength to hold interesting shapes. Finally, the piece is finished with “Aqua Brand” textures and paint which are non-toxic.  The result is an environmentally friendly…
