KALEID Gallery presents: 89.7 FM KFJC 50th Anniversary Art Show: BLOWING MINDS SINCE 1959 A retrospective of the Art & Culture of KFJC including works from KFJC’s 50th Anniversary Art & Logo Contest and a Silent Auction of DJ art. Since its inception KFJC has challenged the Bay Area’s radio waves. 2009 marks fifty years of operation for KFJC, and naturally we wanted to show our support to our listenership. Our volunteer staff pushed beyond its’ alternative and eclectic programming by hosting a 50th Anniversary Art & Logo Contest this summer. Every year we hand select different artists to create our Artist T Shirt and Girlie Shirt designs that become our gifts during our fundraiser season. KALEID Gallery presents TANGLE: wandering off trail by Janett Peace and Matthew Bailey Seigel. Matthew Bailey Seigel’s new paintings are a reinvention of the Japanese scroll in modern materials. And like their Muromachi era (1336-1537) counterparts, his themes are of local plants, flowers and animals. But unlike traditional kakejiku (hung scrolls), Matthew’s are less formal, and more of a tangled log of his wanderings off trail. Inspired by Matthew’s view of nature, Janett Peace has created a series of glass pieces in response. She evokes Matthew’s style in 3D while adding a luminous quality only possible with glass. While her interpretations are meant as a tribute to Matthew’s eye for color and composition, she further explores drawing in glass using techniques that give her work a painterly quality. KALEID Gallery presents two new feature exhibitions for the month of May. Alta Modern Graffiti by ARMOgedon 2057 – Residing in California Armo’s work is a collaboration of typographic elements and exploration with graffiti structure and form. By looking at graffiti and typography by studying their visual commonalities as lettering, much can be discovered and revealed. As graffiti matures and diversifies, more and more of it’s aesthetics filters into graphic design, and it has gained acceptance in popular culture at large, now comfortably accepted as a contemporary mode of communication.
