“Meditations” by Leslie Ann Rice Bock Solo Exhibit November 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Meditations by Leslie Ann Rice Bock. Each piece acts as a meditation on the time, location, and people that make up the firing celebration. This ongoing art project started in 2014, capturing my journey and joy learning the wood fire process at Spring Valley Anagama. Wheel thrown, altered, then wood fired, each piece is unique in its formation, its placement in the kiln, and the firing which is showcased upon the surface. The deposits of ash that turn to glaze, the pathway of the flame upon the surface serve as a reminder of the process and community built during the firing. Artist’s reception: First Friday, November 1st 5pm–9pmpart of the First Fridays ArtWalk SJ in SoFA District.Exhibition dates: November 1–November 23, 2024Gallery hours: Thursdays–*Fridays 12pm–7pm, Saturdays 12pm–5pm, and *First Fridays 5pm–9pm.Free admission and all ages welcomed.KALEID Gallery320 S. 1st St.SoFA District downtown San Joseinfo@KALEIDGallery.com…

“Lost in the Lines” John “Jangus” Cambra Solo Exhibit October 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Lost in the LinesJohn “Jangus” Cambra solo exhibition Artist’s Reception: First Friday October 4th 5pm–9pmFree admission. Part of the South FIRST FRIDAYS ArtWalk SJ. “Lost in the Lines” is a deeply personal exploration of the connection between creativity and the subconscious mind. This collection, composed entirely of pencil and ink work, represents a return to my artistic roots—an homage to the simplicity and complexity that first drew me to art as a child. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of engaging in a mentorship that reignited my passion for creating. It was during this time that I reconnected with the inspirations that shaped my early artistic journey, and to rediscover a process that flows naturally from within. Each piece in this collection is born from a meditative practice some refer to as “line art meditation” or “automatic drawing”. As I immerse myself in…

“Playing Dice with the Universe” Doug Edwards solo exhibition June 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: Playing Dice with the UniverseDoug Edwards solo exhibition Artist’s reception: Friday, June 7th 5pm–9pmpart of South FIRST FRIDAYS ArtWalk SJFree admission & all ages. The physicist Niels Bohr embraced the theory that the action of atoms was not determined by a set of defined rules, but rather was influenced by the simple act of being observed. Albert Einstein disagreed that the universe could be so random. He famously replied, “God does not play dice.” As evidenced by the work on display here, I’m more with Bohr. Each time I start a new work, I bring to it an open mind and no preconceived notion of where the finished piece will end up. I make stray marks and then react to them, striving to find balance while allowing my subconscious mind to dredge up imagery from my past or incorporating that which I see before…

“INNERMOST” Julianne Bonnet Solo Exhibit April, 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: INNERMOST  Julianne Bonnet solo exhibition Julianne Bonnet uses the layering of imagery in digital and encaustic collage to create a visual depth that is representative of the human emotional landscape.  Each image is a unique meditation on a deeply personal memory, thought, or idea that gets the core of experiences both painful and revelatory. Julianne’s work touches on concepts of trauma healing, a very important and increasingly visible part of our social fabric.  The images in “Innermost” elicit hugs, tears, and the sharing of stories. Her work helps people to feel seen and understood and encourages them to embrace, and even celebrate, the hiddenmost parts of themselves and the experiences that have shaped them.  “Innermost” takes you on an emotional journey of the deepest parts of the human psyche and unites us in our combined understanding of what it means and feels like to…

Although she succumbs to her illness and dies, he still tries to keep her alive.through the layers of “reality” he has layered in his own reality. She exists between the planes of the here and the gone; he can’t tell the difference except for the crackles and blasts of his brain breaking…breaking through to her. Sometimes their connection is clear. She is alive with him, she is his – laughing and seemingly interacting with him. Then the crackling happens and he loses her; she can’t hear him anymore. She’s decaying, he’s trying desperately to stop that. He can’t control decay any more than he can control his disgusting love for a dead girl. He finally realizes…

“Terraforming the Uncanny Valley” by Julie Meridian & Lucidbeaming February 2024

KALEID Gallery is proud to present: “Terraforming the Uncanny Valley” a series of paintings from a collaboration between painter Julie Meridian (San Jose) and tech artist Lucidbeaming (Berlin). Opening reception: Friday February 2nd 5pm–9pmpart of the First Fridays ArtWalk SJFree admission & all ages. Lucidbeaming’s algorithmic remixing of historical landscapes is reimagined in paintings by Julie Meridian. His algorithmic experimentation with synthetic terrain combined with her eye for bringing realistic detail back in to virtual imagery yields a new kind of landscape. From a painting tradition that celebrated unspoiled nature to remixes made real through human interpretation, the end result is a vision that hints at a future when the environment re-forms after humanity’s presence…and the marks it has left with technology. Both artists are deeply grounded in both traditional and digital art practices. They are pursuing ethical AI experimentation to better understand the nature of what can emerge. About…
