Opening Reception for Featured Artists Valerie Runningwolf and Dorothy Whitman

Opening Reception for Featured Artists Centa Schumacher & Al Preciado KALEID Gallery is pleased to present two new solo exhibitions for the month of March: “Portraits of the Innerself” new work by Valerie Runningwolf The person we wake up with every morning or the stranger just passing on the street carries their truth safely hidden on the inside. Often it is a mask we put on every morning to face the world and take off each night in our dreams that is seen as reality.   “Steam Punk Explorations” new work by Dorothy Whitman Steam punk is a sub genre that explores an alternate historical progression which is supportive of the environments and individuals. As with any genre in art it has its niches. I like exploring Victorian representations of technology and totems, as well as the inclusions of poetry and words as a way of looking deeper at the…

Opening Reception for Featured Artists Centa Schumacher & Al Preciado

Feature Exhibitions by Centa Schumacher, and Al Preciado opens with an artists’ reception on First Friday February 3rd, 7-11pm with live music by Freya Seeburger. “Lunar Phases,” new photography series by Centa Schumacher Every of these digitally composited images are made from personal photographs –some “serious”, some snapshots–that I’ve taken over the years. By layering and overlapping these images in the shape of familiar lunar phases, I am evoking the cyclical nature of life, as nothing can truly be counted on but change. However, underneath it all the true self remains, sometimes illuminated and uplifted by the change, other times left in murky shadow. “Brutal /Tender” recent works by Al Preciado An exhibition of sculptures, paintings, photo collages and installation work encompassing the last 6 months in and out of the studio. “The roughshod and gentle nature of the art reflects a growing appreciation for all sides of my personal…

August Feature Exhibits by Michelle Waters, Jonathan Perea

KALEID Gallery presents two new solo exhibitions by Michelle Waters and Jonathan Perea Musings From the Wastelandby Michelle Waters The paintings in this series by Bay Area artist Michelle Waters are influenced by the nightmarish imagery of Hieronymus Bosch, Edward Abbey’s writings and her work as a wildlife rehabilitator and environmental activist. Her art deconstructs the assumption of human superiority by showing what might transpire if animals took control over the fate of the planet. Animals demolishing the Glen Canyon Dam and wildlife laying waste to a bulldozer are some of the characters who populate her paintings. Convergenceby Jonathan Perea Subatomic abstract realism: A worldwide acceleration where science and spirituality dances to the tune of the cosmos. The illusion of duality unveiled a new beginning.
